A custom domain means that you’re sending emails from a domain name that you own.
For example, Flodesk owns the domain flodesk.com and one of our domain emails is hello[at]flodesk.com
.
Flodesk does not provide you with a custom domain email with your subscription.
If you don’t already have a custom domain, head over to a domain provider and grab one! Coming up with your own custom domain can be a fun and creative process.
We recommend doing your research and choosing the right domain host for your business needs. All providers will give you the domain email you need, so the rest depends on your preference.
Once you’ve purchased your custom domain, set up your new custom domain email address in your domain provider.
The exact process will vary based on the platform you're using. Here is a list of resources to help you set up your custom domain email with top providers:
If you’re using Shopify, please note that email hosting isn't provided on Shopify. If you have a Shopify-managed domain and you want to send an email message from your custom domain email address, then you need to use a third-party email hosting service. Learn more here.
After you’ve set up your new email address, head back into your Flodesk account settings to:
Verify your custom domain via DKIM and SPF
Configure DMARC for your domain provider by following our step-by-step guide: How to set up my domain's DMARC policy
Important: Once you’ve purchased the new domain and set up the new sender in Flodesk, it can take 15-20 minutes for Flodesk to recognize this as a valid sender.
Note: When you use Flodesk to send emails, the “from” address includes Flodesk’s name by default. With a custom domain, you can send emails from your own branded name, which not only builds trust with your recipients but also improves deliverability.
What is domain authentication?
Domain authentication (domain verification or verified domains) links your Flodesk account to your domain host, which verifies your identity. When you send emails from Flodesk, your subscribers' email providers will process your email and assess it for potential threats.
The best way to avoid being flagged as a potential threat is to send from your own domain that you have authenticated in Flodesk.
