How to verify your custom domain manually, if your domain provider is Google Domains

In this video tutorial, we show you how to verify your custom domain manually if your domain provider is Google Domains.

Important: Google Domains adds your domain automatically to the end of the records. So, make sure to remove your domain name from the Name/Host/Alias records, and paste these instead:

  • fde._domainkey

  • fdesp

  • _dmarc

Step by step instructions:

  1. Log into your Flodesk account and go to Account settings > Domain setup

  2. On your domain card, click Authenticate now > I'll do it manually

  3. Click Next

  4. On the following screen, you’ll see the relevant verification records that you need to copy and add one-by-one in Google Domains. Each record has a specific type, host value and points to value. You will need to add CNAME and TXT records as indicated.

  5. Using the copy button, copy the first Host record from Flodesk.

  6. Log in to Google Domains: Access your Google Domains account at domains.google/.

  7. Navigate to DNS settings: Select the domain you want to manage and click on the "DNS" tab.

  8. Locate Custom Records: Scroll down to the "Custom resource records" section.

  9. Add a new record: Click on "Add a new record".

  10. Paste the Host name record from Flodesk to the “Host/Name” field. Make sure to remove the domain name from the end of the record.

  11. Under Type, select CNAME

  12. Next, copy the corresponding Points to value from Flodesk and paste it to the “Data/Value” field

  13. Save your changes

  14. In Flodesk, using the copy button, copy the second Host record

  15. In Google Domains, click the Add a new record button

  16. Paste the Host name record from Flodesk to the “Host/Name” field. Make sure to remove the domain name from the end of the record.

  17. Under Type, select CNAME

  18. Next, copy the corresponding Points to value from Flodesk and paste it to the “Data/Value” field

  19. Save your changes

  20. In Flodesk, using the copy button, copy the third Host record

  21. In Google Domains, click the Add a new Record button

  22. Paste the Host name record from Flodesk to the “Host/Name” field. Make sure to remove the domain name from the end of the record.

  23. Under Type, select TXT

  24. Next, copy the corresponding Points to value from Flodesk and paste it to the “Data/Value” field

  25. Save your changes

  26. In Flodesk, click the Next > Done

  27. The domain verification card may initially show as "Pending", as it can take up to 48 hours for your domain to be verified

Note: Most often, DKIM and DMARC records are verified quicker, and SPF records can take up to 48 hours to propagate. So, it's not uncommon to see a "Partially authenticated" screen. You do not need to go through the verification steps again, though.

  28. Wait 24-48 hours and come back to check if your domain has been successfully authenticated.

If your domain is not verified after 48 hours, review the recommended troubleshooting steps from this guide. Most often, the issue is that certain domain providers add the domain name automatically. For additional assistance, you can email us at support@flodesk.com.
