Editing your email graphics just got easier than ever. Connect your Canva account to Flodesk to import your designs directly into your Flodesk email into an Image block or image placeholder in a Layout block, E-commerce block, or Poll block.
And if you still need to make some edits later, just click the “Edit in Canva” option in Flodesk!
How to connect your Canva account to Flodesk
In your Flodesk account, go to Account settings > Integrations and click the Connect button on the Canva integration card.
Follow the prompts to log in and allow Canva to connect to your Flodesk account.
After successfully connecting Canva, you should see a toggle on the Canva integration card similar to the below screenshot example.
If you want to disconnect your Canva account, simply click on the toggle on the Canva integration card.
Having trouble connecting to Canva?
The Canva login window opens as a pop-up. If it's not appearing, your browser's pop-up blocker might be interfering. Please disable it for Flodesk and try connecting again.
How to import a Canva design into your Flodesk email
Step 1. In the Email builder, add an Image block or any of the following block types that contain image placeholders: Layout block, E-commerce block, or Poll block.
Step 2. Click the image placeholder to select it and on the right sidebar, under the Image tab, select the option “Add image from Canva”
If you haven’t connected your Canva account yet through the integrations page, click Connect Canva and follow the instructions to log in and connect your Canva account. You’ll be redirected back to this step once the connection is successful.
If you’ve already connected your Canva account, you’ll see the option to import your designs from Canva by clicking Add design.
Step 3. Choose a design from your Canva account or select Create new in Canva.
Your Canva designs will be sorted by “updated at” with the most recent at the top. You can search your designs by design title.
If your Canva design contains multiple pages, you will need to choose the page you want to import into your Flodesk email by clicking Choose page to import.
This will open the page listing all the designs available for selection.
When you select a design, it can be imported into the email as image (PNG) or a GIF if you work with an Image block in Flodesk.
Note: importing the design as a GIF is only available in the case of Image blocks. GIFs are not supported in Layout blocks, E-commerce blocks, or Poll blocks as the entire block renders as one single image in the final design.
You can still import Canva designs into Layout blocks, E-commerce blocks, or Poll blocks as static images (PNG).
Step 4. Once you add your selected design, if you hover over the image on the right sidebar, you’ll see the option to Edit in Canva in case you want to tweak it further.
Note: this option is only for designs that you uploaded from Canva and won’t be available for images uploaded from your computer or imported via Unsplash.
Step 5. After finishing your edits in the Canva builder, click Return to Flodesk in the top right corner, next to the Share button.
This will bring you back to Flodesk and import the updated design into your Flodesk email.
Can I create a new Canva design from Flodesk?
Yes, you can start creating a new Canva design from your Flodesk email.
Step 1. In the Email builder, add an Image block or any of the following block types that contain image placeholders: Layout block, E-commerce block, or Poll block.
Step 2. Click the image placeholder to select it and on the right sidebar, under the Image tab, select the option “Add image from Canva”, then select Add design.
Step 3. On the next screen, select Create new in Canva.
Step 4. Create your design in the Canva builder. After finishing your edits in the Canva builder, click Return to Flodesk in the top right corner, next to the Share button.
This will bring you back to Flodesk and import the Canva design into your Flodesk email.
Important: when creating a new Canva design via the Flodesk builder, the design will automatically be imported as a static image (PNG). To import your new design as a GIF, re-upload the Canva design from the Canva overlay, and choose the “Import as GIF” option. GIFs can only be added/imported into standard Image blocks. I edited a Canva design directly on Canva after I added it to my Flodesk email. Will my Flodesk email reflect those changes?
No, your Flodesk email will not reflect those changes. When you make changes to a Canva design outside of the Flodesk editor (for example, when you log into your Canva account and make any changes directly in the Canva builder) after you’ve added it to your Flodesk email will not automatically update in your email.
To sync the new design in your email, you’ll simply need to reimport it.
I don’t see the “Return to Flodesk” option in the Canva builder. What should I do?
If you do not see the “Return to Flodesk” button in the Canva builder:
Click “Share” on the top right corner of the Canva editor
In the dropdown menu, select “See all”
Scroll to the bottom of the expanded menu
Under “More options” you will see the option to “Return to Flodesk”
Can I also import my Canva designs into Forms and Checkouts?
Not yet. Currently, you can import your Canva designs only within the Email builder.
If I share an email/workflow as a template with a Canva design, will this design be available for members that get my template?
The image will be shared within the email/workflow template, just like all other images. But there would be no connection to your Canva account at that point. It would also not become a design in the importing Flodesk member’s Canva account to edit it further.
