How to connect Shopify to Flodesk
Step 1. Head to your My Account area > Integrations
Step 2. To automatically connect your Shopify store to Flodesk, click to connect and follow the prompts.
Note: All current and new customers will automatically be pulled into a Shopify segment named after your Shopify store—whether they have agreed to receive marketing emails or not—to allow you to send transactional, non-marketing emails to them.
Step 3. Once your store is connected, you will see a new segment named after your Shopify store on your Audience > Segments dashboard.
Important: For any member who connects with Shopify inside Flodesk, we do require the creation of a separate "exclusion list" segment for customers who have not opted in specifically for marketing emails.
This ensures that you stay compliant with anti-spam laws and that you only contact Shopify customers who have agreed to get marketing emails from you.
How to create an exclusion list
An exclusion list is, in essence, a new segment where you upload all your Shopify customers who have not opted in for marketing emails.
Follow the steps to create a new segment for your exclusion list.
Step 1. Go to Audience > Segments and click on + New segment
Step 2. On the Create a new segment panel, type in the name of your new segment. You can name it 'Shopify exclusion list'.
This segment will contain all the people who didn't agree to get your marketing emails, so name it in a way that lets you quickly identify this segment later.
Step 3. Pick a nice color for your new segment.
In this example, I chose red. But you can pick any other color, and you can change the segment's color any time if you wish.
Make sure to save your changes.
Step 4. The new segment is created and available on your Audience > Segments dashboard.
Step 5. Export a list from Shopify of those who did not opt in for email marketing.

Step 6. Click on the 'Shopify exclusion list' segment's card, and on the next screen, upload a CSV of all your Shopify customers who didn't opt in for marketing email.
And you're done!
