How to use folders in Flodesk
Overview
Folders let you organize your emails, forms, workflows, and checkouts into groups that make sense for your business. If your Emails, Forms, Workflows, or Checkout areas are getting hard to navigate, folders are the answer.
Each section of Flodesk (Emails, Forms, Workflows, and Checkout) has its own Folders tab, so you can keep everything tidy without losing track of anything. Content that isn't in a folder is still accessible from the main listing page at any time.
How to create a folder
Go to the Emails, Forms, Workflows, or Checkout area, depending on what you want to organize
Click the Folders tab near the top-left of the page
Click + New folder in the top-right corner
Give your folder a name, then select the content you'd like to add to it (or skip this step and add content later)
How to add content to a folder
You can add content to a folder at any time from the main listing page:
Go to your Emails, Forms, Workflows, or Checkout listing page
Hover over the item you want to organize
Click the three-dot menu (...) and select Add to folder
In the prompt that appears, choose an existing folder or create a new one
The content will then appear in that folder and remain accessible from the main listing page as well.
How to move content between folders
Find the item you want to move, either on the main listing page or inside its current folder
Click the three-dot menu (...) and select Move to folder (this action only appears for items that are already in a folder)
Choose the folder you'd like to move it to, or create a new one
Note: each piece of content can only live in one folder at a time. Moving it to a new folder removes it from the previous one.
How to remove content from a folder
Find the item you want to remove, either on the main listing page or inside the folder
Click the three-dot menu (...) and select Remove from folder (this action only appears for items that are already in a folder)
The content is removed from the folder but stays in your account. It will still appear on the main listing page. Removing content from a folder never deletes it.
How to delete a folder
Find the folder you want to delete
Click the three-dot menu (...) and select Delete
This action cannot be undone and will only delete the folder; its contents will not be deleted.
How folders work: what to know
A few things worth knowing before you dive in:
Each piece of content can only be in one folder at a time. This works the same way files work on your computer: a file can only live in one folder at once.
Folders can only hold one type of content. An Email folder holds emails, a Form folder holds forms, and so on. You can't mix content types in the same folder.
All your content is always accessible from the main listing page, whether it's in a folder or not. Folders are for organization, not storage.
Deleting a folder doesn't delete its contents. If you delete a folder, Flodesk will warn you first, and your content will remain safely in your account.
Content created inside a folder stays in that folder. If you create a new email, form, workflow, or checkout from inside a folder, it will live there by default. You can move it later if needed.
Folders can't be nested. Flodesk uses a single layer of organization, so you can't put a folder inside another folder.
FAQ
How do I create a folder in Flodesk?
Go to the Emails, Forms, Workflows, or Checkout area and click the Folders tab near the top-left. Then click + New folder, give it a name, and add content (or skip that and add content later).
How do I add an email, form, workflow, or checkout to a folder?
On the main listing page for Emails, Forms, Workflows, or Checkout hover over the item you want to organize, click the three-dot menu (...), and select "Add to folder". Choose an existing folder or create a new one.
Can the same email, form, workflow, or checkout be in more than one folder?
No. Each piece of content can only live in one folder at a time, similar to how files work on your computer. If you move it to a new folder, it leaves the previous one.
Can I have different types of content (like emails and forms) in the same folder?
No. Folders are organized by content type. Email folders hold emails, Form folders hold forms, Workflow folders hold workflows, and Checkout folders hold checkouts. You can't mix types in a single folder.
If I put content in a folder, can I still see it on the main listing page?
Yes. The main Emails, Forms, Workflows, and Checkout listing pages show all content you've created, whether it's in a folder or not. Folders are a way to organize your content, not hide it.
Does deleting a folder delete the content inside it?
No. Deleting a folder only removes the folder itself. Your content stays in your account and remains accessible from the main listing page. Flodesk will show a warning before you delete, so there are no surprises.
If I create content from inside a folder, will it be saved to that folder?
Yes. Any content you create while inside a folder will be saved to that folder by default. It will also appear on the main listing page as your most recently created item. You can move it to a different folder at any time.
Can I have a folder inside another folder?
No. Flodesk uses a single layer of organization, so folders can't be nested inside other folders. This keeps things clean and easy to navigate.
How do I view archived emails that are inside a folder?
Inside the folder, click the Status dropdown and select Archived to see archived emails within that folder. You can also go to the main Emails listing page, click the Status dropdown, and select Archived to see all archived emails across your account, including those in folders.
How do I move content from one folder to another?
Find the item on the main listing page or inside its current folder, click the three-dot menu (...), and select "Move to folder". Choose the destination folder or create a new one.
How do I remove content from a folder without deleting it?
Find the item on the main listing page or inside the folder, click the three-dot menu (...), and select "Remove from folder". The content will leave the folder and remain accessible on the main listing page.
