Meta (the parent company of Facebook and Instagram) has announced that they will stop supporting the Instagram Basic Display API on December 4, 2024.

This API is used by many websites and services, including Flodesk, to show Instagram feeds in emails via the Instagram block.

What does this change mean?

After December 4, 2024, Instagram will have new requirements to display an Instagram feed. This change by Instagram will also require you to reconnect your Instagram account in Flodesk.

In addition, it will no longer support personal Instagram accounts for this purpose. If you use Flodesk and have a personal Instagram account, you will need to change your account to a public Business or Creator account in Instagram to display your feed in your Flodesk emails.

How can I change my Instagram account to a public Business or Creator account?

It’s free to convert your personal Instagram account to a Business or Creator account. You can learn more about professional accounts on Instagram here: https://www.facebook.com/help/instagram/138925576505882?helpref=faq_content

Do I need to do anything else?

These Instagram changes will require you to reconnect your account in Flodesk under Account settings > Integrations after you set up your Business or Creator account.

What happens if I don’t take action?

After December 4, 2024, if you haven’t changed your personal Instagram account to a Business or Creator account and haven’t reauthorized the connection under Account settings > Integrations, the Instagram feed preview embedded in your email will not properly render.

  • The Instagram images won’t be updated to the latest posts on Instagram

  • The Instagram image URLs, generated since the last time you opened the email builder in Flodesk, are expired and won’t work

Summary of next steps

1. Make sure you have a public Business or Creator account on Instagram. You can learn more about this on Instagram’s site.

2. Reconnect your Instagram account under Account settings > Integrations
